According to the widow of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealth Group who was shot dead outside a hotel in Midtown Manhattan, her husband had been getting threats before the assault.
Paulette, Thompson’s wife, told NBC News that the New York Police Department told her that her husband was the target of a premeditated assault.
Indeed, there had been some threats—basically, I’m not sure—as a result of inadequate coverage. Paulette Thompson said to NBC News, “I don’t know specifics.” “All I know is that he claimed that some individuals had been threatening him.”
Paulette claims her husband did not change his vacation plans in spite of the threats.
She told NBC News, “I can’t really give a thoughtful response right now.” “I’m trying to comfort my kids after learning this.”
At around 6:40 a.m., officers responded to a report outside the New York Hilton Midtown, located at 1335 Sixth Avenue, according to an NYPD official who spoke to PEOPLE. According to authorities, a 50-year-old male was shot in the chest and subsequently declared dead at the hospital.
Thompson was identified as the victim by UnitedHealth.

The masked gunman reportedly escaped north on Sixth Avenue on an electric Citibike, and the NYPD said they are still looking for him.
According to his official description, Thompson began working for UnitedHealth Group in 2004.
The firm released a statement saying, “We are shocked and deeply saddened at the passing of our dear friend and colleague Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare.” “Everyone who worked with Brian regarded him as a friend and colleague. During this trying time, we kindly request your tolerance and patience while we work closely with the New York Police Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian’s family and everyone who knew him.
